Circa 1795, rare and unusual mahogany Pembroke table, probably by Young & Trotter of Edinburgh. The rectangular squat Pembroke table has a solid top and short side flaps. On one side is a full sized drawer with an oak lining. At the opposite end is a simple apron. The piece stands on fjour unusual legs which have a square block at the top, are chamfered on all sides and are tapering. At the bottom is a shaped block and four fluted tapering toes in the forms of elongated triangles. The table has a very elaborate cross over stretcher which is made in the flat with open sections in the form of hearts. Similar examples of this table appear in Edinburgh journals. Young & Trotter later became the firm of William Trotter. Nice piece of Edinburgh furniture.
