Description

Circa 1870, solid oak and metal bound kist/trunk. The top has various strap banding and is slightly domed. It is hinged and opens to reveal a lined ceiling and remnants of the original marbling paper. The inside has had some various divisions removed and has a retaining arm to stop the lid falling over completely. The front of the box has a lock with brass escutcheon and beneath this is a plaque which has not been engraved. There is further strapping all around and at the sides are two iron lifting handles. Would have originally been a silver box, now offers good storage.
