Circa 1770, George III mahogany bureau bookcase (marriage). The top has a swan-neck pediment with a raised centre section, with a cast brass finial of a mythical HoHo bird with a foliate base on a brass sphere, over a dentil frieze. Beneath this are two classical astragal doors enclosing a pair of adjustable shelves. The base has a fall front with a stylish brass escutcheon, and opens to reveal a nicely fitted interior with a green felt writing surface, various drawers and pigeon holes. There are two short over three long graduated drawers with wonderful Chippendale style cast brass handles and escutcheons. All the drawers have cock beadings and all stands on elegant ogee bracket feet. Good colour and patination.
