Description
Circa 1870. Exhibition-quality marquetry-inlaid French, kingwood bureau de dame. The shaped top with marquetry inlaid kingwood panels surrounded by boxwood inlay and cross banded rosewood. The whole bureau with extensive beautifully cast ormolu mounts. the marquetry inlaid bureau flap opening to embossed writing leather slope and fitted interior. All above a shaped frieze drawer mahogany liners and ormolu escutcheon and key. With marquetry inlaid sides and supported on tapering cabriole legs with beautiful ormolu mounts and finishing in sabots. (brass label in the drawer Druce & Co, Bakery Street, Portland Square London). Likely were retailers of this French Bureau.
