Description

Circa 1900, Edwardian walnut free standing A frame easel. The 2 tapering and reeded uprights finish with a scroll and curled top. In the centre there is a foliate carving which is capped with a carved leaf. There is a cross stretcher beneath this and further down there is a rest for the painting. The rest is made with a nice canted corner and 2 scrolling sections on the front at each end. There are similar brackets beneath to support the shelf. As the legs continue down there is a cross over stretcher towards the base which is turned to give the 2 uprights stability, and the leg finishes in a square expanding taper and with a realistic animal foot at the front. The back leg is hinged at the top and held in place by a stylish cord with a tassel beneath. The frame can be adjusted by reducing the length of the cord. The whole piece is clean and stylish.
