Description
Circa 1900. A quality bentwood hall stand with the underside stamped ‘Thornet’ The central cluster stem surmounted with an elegant finial in the form of a beehive, with eight shaped arms forming the coatrack, towards the base, a circular section held in place by four curved sections of bentwood for holding sticks, all resting on four braced downward facing legs.
‘The founder of Thornet was Michael Thornet a German-Austrian cabinet maker, known for the invention of bentwood furniture, born 1796-1871’.
