Description
Circa 1870. A monumental rosewood architects’ desk by ‘Howard & Sons London’, the top with an insert gilded and tooled leather and a stylish fore-edge, the hinged top with three gilded hinges, opens, and is adjustable with a ratchet beneath, the polished surface stenciled “Howard and Sons of London”. The frieze with a pair of full-length drawers, with faux drawers on the back, with profusely carved gables with foliate carving and scrolling sections, in the Chinoiserie style, with five divisions separated by wavy uprights, with a simple moulding, all resting on four stout bracket feet.
