Description
Circa 1900. A stylish large oak framed Orkney chair, probably by ‘David Kirkness’ of Kirkwall. The oak frame with the oat straw back tied and finished with marram grass. The drop in oak framed seat in excellent condition, the simple shaped arms supported on a traditional uprights. The back legs are square tapering and slightly out swept and front legs are square and braced by a conforming peripheral stretchers, with all the uprights and arms fixed in position by half round brass screws. The chair, straw and frame are in excellent condition.
