Circa 1890, late Victorian Art Nouveau oak cabinet bookcase. The simple cornice over 2 glazed doors with a cock beading, which open to reveal 3 adjustable shelves with oak facings. On either side of the doors are ribbed facings, and this continues on the bottom also. The flat surface has a stylish double moulded fore edge and beneath this are two drawers with ogee shapes and very stylish cast brass Art Nouveau handles. Between the drawers is a carved piece in the form of an urn and this occurs again on the left and right. Beneath the drawers are two panelled doors, with a solid carved oak section on both panels in the Art Nouveau style with foliate carving and an oval swirl in the centre. Inside is a single fixed shelf. Beneath this is an ogee moulding and open fretwork beside the feet. The feet are simple, almost a continuation of the ribbing on the front. The bookcase is clean, sturdy and comes in two pieces.
