Description
Circa 1870. A classic mid-Victorian burr walnut and inlaid fold over card table, with a rectangular top with canted corners, the center in quarter matching burr walnut, satinwood ebony banding with marquetry panels in the corners and an ebonized moulded fore-edge, the top swivels and opens to reveal a polished well beneath, in mahogany the inside surface is lined with a green baize with a border of tooled and gilded leather with visible lush and polished brass hinges, the frieze with banding similar to the top, the table rests on four turned, tapering, fluted and gilded supports, braced by an elegant stretcher with exceptional carved, gilded finials on each end, top and below, the platform issues four inlaid saber legs with satinwood and ebony inlay on the facing and carved flower heads on the top with a curled and gilded foot with the original brown porcelain castors beneath.
