Description
Circa 1880. A fine pair of bronzes known as ‘Marly Horses’, after the original by ‘Guillaume Coustou the Elder ‘(1677-1746). The original pair were commissioned for Chateau de Marly in 1739. It took two years for the completion of the horses to be installed, which was carried out in 1745. Each of the originals was made from a solid block of marble.
