Product Description
After 1957, oak framed Orkney chair with makers label of Reynold Eunson for D. M. Kirkness, Kirkwell, Orkney. The light coloured oak frame connects to the woven back with the rows bound and top weave in marran grass, and the shaped arms end on C-scrolls.
David Kirkness reportedly made around 14,000 Orkney chairs in his lifetime, and Reynold Eunson (also a trained carpenter from Orkney) bought the workshop in 1956. He kept the Kirkness name and added his own name/stamp of RE with a thistle between. A similar example of this can be seen in the Victoria & Albert Museum, London.
