Taxidermy Elephant’s Foot

Product Description

Taxidermy elephant’s foot, which has been formed into a storage bin. At the top there is a circular brass bezel with a teak panel and a brass lifting handle. This is hinged and opens to reveal a teak lining inside which has been staved. The lid is held in place by a brass bezel which folds over the top and is quite deep. On the front the neck is engraved with ‘Upper Burma 1913’.  There is a small maker’s mark on the back but it is not distinctive. Quality pieces of this period were normally sent to London to firms like Ward to have the taxidermy carried out. It is an unusual and stylish piece because the inside is completely polished.
