Circa 1900, very fine and unusual mahogany painted Sheraton style ladies writing table, almost in the style of a miniature Carlton House desk. The desk is profusely painted all over with classical figures, cherubs, swags and tails, musical instruments and Wedgewood Jasper style panels. In the centre is a shaped writing surface. There are secret compartments either side opened by release buttons inside the drawers. These open to reveal various compartments inside. There are 3 drawers below this which follow the form of the top. The back also painted with birds, masks, urns and swags and tails. The whole piece stands on four elegant square, tapering legs with string inlay finishing on stylish brass castors.
