Circa 1900, Georgian style burr walnut pedestal desk. The rectangular top with its new tooled and embossed burgundy leather, burr walnut cross banding, and double ogee moulding above the cushion shaped apron which continues around the sides and back, thus making the desk free standing. At the front there are 3 drawers, 1 long and 2 short, with convex fronts and stylish cast brass handles with open fretwork back plates, turned brass pummels and swan neck handles. The drawers fill the entire frieze at the front. The desk stands on 2 pedestals, with burr walnut on all sides and a configuration of 3 drawers with handles the same as the top. The drawers have cock beadings and graduate from top to bottom. Beneath the bottom drawer there is a round moulding and each of the pedestals have 4 bracket feet. Behind the bracket feet there are cast brass wheels on an oval plate making it easy to move the desk while in position. The desk has great colour, very stylish and good condition.
