Circa 1880, neat sized French bureau plat. The wonderful shaped top has a deep cast brass bezel and quarter matching burr walnut veneers with foliate inlay in the border almost in the style of seaweed marquetry. This has been done in rosewood and where the veneers change colour at the corners there is a very good contrast between each of the sections. At the front there is a single shaped drawer with a very stylish large cast escutcheon. The table has shaped sides and back, and is free standing with further matching burr walnut veneers throughout. From the top of the legs all the way down is wonderful foliate casting which starts at the top and finishes with very stylish sabots at the end. The legs are chamfered at the side and rounded at the back. Excellent colour and condition.
