Circa 1890, very unusual pitch pine armchair from the Caithness region of Scotland. These chairs have a very distinctive back with cross stretchers and ribbed spindles, and curved smooth arms. The unusual feature of a Cathiness chair is the style of the seat which is usually open front and back. This one has a rectangular seat with rounded corners. The 4 legs are slightly splayed and united with various cross stretchers.
