Description

Circa 1870, very unusual style of monumental fire dogs, made of a combination of bronze and steel. The tops are surmounted by bronze figures dressed in classic Roman clothing. They stand on an upright with fluted and bulbous sections with engravings, cast figures and lion heads, finishing on a triangular base with further cast figures in the apron. Below this is a very stylish blacksmith made Rococo base which is shaped and has been hand engraved, and there are two large arms at the back. Wonderful colour and patination on the bronze.
