Circa 1870, large mahogany, rosewood and satinwood travelling chess and backgammon set. The substantial box which is hinged and opens, with rosewood and satinwood squares on a mahogany frame. On the outside, each of the squares has a small circular aperture in the centre to hold the pieces in place. On the inside, it is set up for backgammon. There is a full set of chess pieces in ebonised wood and boxwood and a set of counters for backgammon.
