Circa 1860, rare exhibition quality early Victorian burr walnut dressing table. The large oval mirror has bevelled edge glass in a stylish shaped moulded bezel, with carved foliate and ribbons on top, supported by two elegant carved solid walnut brackets. Beneath this is a configuration known as a ‘Duchess’ dressing table, with a small set of three drawers on either side and a wonderful serpentine lidded apartment in the centre almost in the form of a piano. The large surface has matching quarter veneers and beneath this is an inverted drawer in the centre and two drawers on either side. The kneehole is carved and framed with shell and foliate carving and there are two doors with arched fielded panelled doors which open to reveal a combination of drawers and a shelf. All standing on a burr walnut enclosed plinth. Castors have been added later to give height. Excellent colour and condition.
