Product Description

Circa 1870 a stylish and elegant French kidney shaped ladies writing table, the top with geometric parquetry inlay, with each intersection being separated by a satinwood roundel, there’s further banding up to the foredge,  wraparound gilded and moulded banding with a ribbed facing, the sides and the back of the desk are all finished in the same style as the to, making the table freestanding, The front has a configuration of one long narrow drawer and two bow fronted drawers, central drawer with a very elegant gilded escutcheon.

Locks by Duvivier have been seen on early Linke and Krieger furniture. Duvivier was a locksmith on the same street as Linke’s and Zwiener’s workshops on the Faubourg St. Antoine. It is also interesting to see that a similar bronze mount like the one on the middle section of this vitrine was also used in a bedroom suite signed by Francois Linke that was sold at Bonhams London on 10th July 2007, lot 126.

The table stands on four well-formed cabriole legs, with large and well-cast mounts to the top, the legs have kingwood banding, chamfered on the front, concave sides and further banding on the back, and finished on ormolu sabots in the form of an animal foot with foliate casting above.
