Circa 1860. A mid Victorian quarter-sawn oak clerks desk stamped ‘Gillows’ The sloping writing surface with original green tooled leather and simple moulded edge. Lid is hinged and opens to reveal an uninterrupted interior, with two banks of seven drawers each with turned knob handles, original working locks, with a pair of cast brass lifting handles on each gable, back of the desk is paneled and polished, making it free standing. Beneath the bottom drawers there are further mouldings, a simple frieze and the piece rests on four squat bracket feet.
