Circa 1870, mid Victorian freestanding inlaid burr walnut and ebonised davenport. The raised pen section and pierced brass three-quarter gallery over a writing slope with embossed, gilded green leather. The interior with birds eye maple drawers and bearing a maker’s label of ‘Johnson & Appleyard, Sheffield – Rotherham, Appleyard & Sons’. With a bank of drawers with burr walnut facings and knob handles, and the opposite side with similar faux drawers. The inlaid panels to the front are over a raised platform, all on squat bun feet and brass and white patent porcelain castors.
