Circa 1860, good early Victorian mahogany chest of drawers. The large rectangular chest has stylish veneers on top, a deep flat fore edge with a lovely slender moulding beneath, giving the chest depth. There are four long graduating drawers with matching flame mahogany veneers along the facing and stylish turned knob handles with concave centres and small finial inside. The drawers have oak liners and muntins indicating quality. Unusually, the drawers are flush with the facings, as there are no beadings or fore edges. Beneath the bottom drawer is a large enclosed plinth, with a slight tapering on the top almost a mirror image of the top. The chest is large with great colour and great storage capacity. Typical country house piece of furniture.
