Circa 1830. A very unusual and stylish and rare walnut framed Dutch marquetry telescopic duet stand. The slatted top with pull out slides on both ends, the top is hinged and folds over to form the duet stand, but when both ends are extended capacity for a quartet. The underside has a wonderful brass mechanism including a ratchet on the top for tipping to one side, there is a brass collar with a small knob for locking a rod into position for adjusting the height of the stand, this rests on circular tapering marquetry column with a flared collar at the base, issuing three low shaped feet finishing on original brass castors. The stand has excellent colour and patination.
