Ewan Geddes ‘At Crammond Bay’ Jan 1915.
Geddes, Ewan RSW. 1866-1936. Borne and died Blairgowrie, Perthshire. Primarily a watercolourist, specialising in landscapes, homely scenes and country people. Trained in Edinburgh. Son of William G(qv). Very popular where he lived, being described as a ‘thoroughly sweet person’. Especially fond of the countryside around Muirton and Cramond. His landscapes are simple poetic and person, using subdued tones. Particularly adept at painting snow scenes. His paintings are popular in the USA. Lived all his working life at Gowanbrae, Blairgowrie. An exhibition of his work was held in Blairgowrie 1974. Elected RSW 1902. Regular exhibitor RSA (151) from 1891, also RA (2), RSW (113), GI(72), RHA(5) & AAS 1885-1935. His watercolour ‘The Fair Maid’s House, Perth’, is in Perth AG; also represented in Glasgow AG, Kirkcaldy AG, City of Edinburgh collection.
