Circa 20th Century, large and unusual tortoiseshell and white metal pagoda topped tantalus. With a stylish circular spear with finial to the top and a white metal base beneath it, and the pagoda shaped lid with 4 tortoiseshell panels has open fretwork with white steel on it. The top is hinged and opens to reveal a birds eye maple top and liners at the base and 4 divisions. The top section of the base is glazed with bevelled edged glass and beneath this are 4 panels with similar fretwork to the top and an ebonised section. The base has a chamfered section at the front which continues all the way around with tortoiseshell and ebony beading and 4 large panels with filigree brass or white metal strapping at each of the corners. The whole piece stands on squat large ogee bracket feet.
