Circa 1900, unusual set of 8 bergere chairs made in walnut and birds eye maple. The carved and dipped top rail with foliate carving at each side, over a lattice with a mixture of birds eye maple and walnut interlaced forming a mesh back. There is a bergere seat (damaged on a few) which is shaped. As the back continues down it becomes a chamfered and tapering leg and then continues to be out swept at the back. The front legs are turned at the top and as they sweep down there is a slight kick towards the end. There is a stylish turned stretcher at the front, double stretchers at the side and a single one at the back. The chairs are interesting and very stylish.
