Oak Bureau Bookcase

Product Description

Circa 1900, unusual tambour fronted sectional bureau with glazed cabinet on top.  With a top ledge and flat oak section with carved rondel in the centre to the top. Beneath the polished top section are several polished mouldings and a large glazed door with Jacobean beading, canted and diamond sections, and small rondels in the corner. A brass knob to the base opens the door into the body of the bureau, revealing a small removable shelf and a polished interior. A tambour pull down section is below this with a carved section similar to the ledge, and to the middle a classic roll top escutcheon. There are various pigeon drawers and 2 small drawers, 1 left and 1 right with a cast brass handle similar to that on the glazed section.  The writing surface can be pushed back in, so when the tambour is closed the inside is secure. Beneath this are 2 drawers with pear shaped handles, beading down the centre and back plates.  Between the drawers there is a beading that runs down the centre. The panel doors have a carved circular rondel and a Jacobean style beading around the centre panel. The shaped apron leads on to 4 squat barley sugar legs with blocks and turned feet beneath it, and a combination of cross stretchers, and an H-stretcher.
