Circa 1900, mahogany inlaid jack in the box writing table/sewing box. The mahogany two piece top has crossbanding, string inlay and a chequered fore edge, is hinged and opens to reveal a rising mechanism of a paper, inkwell and envelope stand. In the centre is a red leather writing surface, and to the left and right are two leather sections for pens etc. The writing surface has a flush military style handle which opens to reveal another small writing surface. Again within this is another lifting handle which opens to reveal a fitted out sewing section, which is lined in water silk and has a red leather section for holding needles etc. The condition is superb.
