Circa 1880, pair of Italian walnut corner chairs. The top with wonderful foliate carving which is gilded in sections, above the back with 2 padded sections, which is held in place into the seat in 3 locations. There is a large stuffover seat which is sprung and finished in gilt and the chairs have a wonderful carved shape beneath the seat and again foliate carving. The front and the 2 side legs have carved cabriole legs with foliate carving on the front which runs down all the way to a very stylish elegant foot. The edges of the legs are gilded as are the sections on the front. The back legs are similar but without the carving. The chairs have a wonderful carving and patination.
