Circa 1890, large carved oak barometer of generous proportions. The top section has a curved architectural pediment surmounted by a large carved urn. Beneath this is an apron with scratch carving and two Corinthian pilasters. In the centre is the glazed section with the thermometer, over carved swags. In the next section is a moulding and dentil carving, over the barometer which has a polished steel face with name of ‘Kelvin & James White Ltd, Opticians, Glasgow’. They were probably the retailers of this item. This is surrounded by foliate carving and beneath this is further mouldings and two turned finials, all finishing with a shaped fluted urn. Great colour and very stylish.
