Description

Circa 1890, very stylish Chinese Hongmu marble topped stand. The circular top is made in segments, and has a mottled pink marble insert and a stylish beaded edge. Beneath this there is a stepped apron with foliate open fretwork, and a further wider tier which is carved with various flowers and fruits. Beneath this there are quarter brackets which continue up to become the secondary apron, with open fretwork of leaves and fruit. From this there are 5 elegant carved cabriole legs connected by an under stretcher which is almost in the form of a star, all finishing on simple primitive animal feet. It is unusual to get a 2 tiered stand which is so profusely carved. Good colour and condition.
