Circa 1840, set of William IV steel fire irons consisting of tongs, poker and shovel. The faceted elongated tops have a simple finial on it and beneath this the column of each of the pieces is simply turned steel. The shovel has a stylish shaped base and open fretwork with a floral pattern on it. The poker has a solid section at the base giving the impression of a stretched piece with a slightly chamfered corner. The tongs have a curling top and 2 holes at the end. The actual tong itself is in the form of a heart. The irons are a good colour and in good condition.
