Product Description

Circa 1820, very unusual George IV mahogany rise and fall cheval mirror. The rectangular shaped mirror is held in place by a stylish mahogany frame which has beading beside the glass and cross banded throughout. The back of the mirror has 4 fielded panels. There is a brass lifting knob at the top to adjust the height. On each side of the mirror there are 2 large rectangular uprights with beaded panels and crowned by large mahogany urns. These finials can be removed and inside the upright is the sash and case rise and fall mechanism. Towards the base of the uprights there is a cross stretcher which gives the mirror stability and again has a similar beading and a flame mahogany panel. There are 2 further rectangular blocks with similar panels left and right. The whole piece stands on 4 stylish sabre legs with tapering reeding from top to bottom, finishing with a cast brass toe and cast brass castors beneath.
